Exchange 2010 – Wrong path for kerbauth.dll in IIS config

by Nicolas Blank 23 May 2011 Exchange

Exchange unattended installs can sometimes misfire, and I had an instance where the install path specified in the install script became D:\EXCHANGE,SERVER\ instead of D:\EXCHANGE SERVER\ with a comma “,” replacing the space. As a result the PowerShell provider broke and local management functions were impaired. Eventually I decided to uninstall and take the space [...]

Celebrating a master, Roberts Rules gains recognition

by Nicolas Blank 17 May 2011 Commentary

Having had the privilege of sharing a class with Robert Gillies during my MCM 2010 rotation last year, I wanted to call out a blog entry which mentions Robert Gillies and comments on his writing on the Exchange team blog.   http://blog.mimecast.com/2011/05/robert%e2%80%99s-rules-and-challenging-complexity/   Robert is a consultant with Microsoft Consulting Services, and since he’s been [...]

Exchange 2010 remote PowerShell breaks after add/remove/change of IP Address

by Nicolas Blank 5 April 2011 Exchange

Something that occurs in a lab situation quite frequently and less in real life is changing IP addresses on your Exchange server. Some of my lab servers frequently undergo a scenario change where I’ll add or remove them from specific Hyper-V networks or subnets.   Then one day everything broke. EMS reported : Connecting to [...]

F5 Webcasts

by Nicolas Blank 31 March 2011 Exchange

Load Balancers can be rather complex, the guidance can be confusing, and how vendors interpret that guidance can be interesting. So image my joy when I discovered that F5 have a bunch of webcast based walkthroughs that make life easier for the average guy having to configure an F5 load balancer as part of implementing [...]

Using PowerShell to find the MAPI endpoint on Exchange 2010

by Nicolas Blank 30 March 2011 Exchange

I’ve been working with some folks who are discovering the intricacies of MAPI on Exchange 2010. Since they were feeling some pain on this issue, I thought it may be worth writing about in case more folks are running into the same issue. We’re used to Outlook doing a load of things for us, and [...]

Restricting Hub Transport Server selection using SubmissionServerOverrideList

by Nicolas Blank 22 March 2011 Documentation

I had a great question today: I have three Hub Transport Servers, and one Mailbox Server, and I want   Hub Transport servers one and two used for load balanced mail delivery. Hub Transport Server three should never be used, except for mail relaying.   Obviously one of the design features of Exchange 2010 is the ability [...]

Using PowerShell to determine the state of MAPI Encryption on Exchange Servers

by Nicolas Blank 15 March 2011 Exchange

In Exchange 2010 specifically, or even Exchange 2007/2010 mixed orgs you can easily detect which servers require MAPI encryption. The easiest would be to run Get-RPCClientAccess, which returns all Exchange 2010 servers  hosting MAPI Endpoints and all encryption levels as well as if the server carries  MAPI client and/or public folder responsibility. The output above [...]

Exchange 2010 – Anonymous Receive Connector for Multi-Function Devices and Internal Applications

by Nina Nortje 9 March 2011 Exchange

In transitioning a customer from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, one of the issues that cropped up was configuring the multi-function printers to be able to send messages internally. Previously one just configured the relay list for the exchange server, and included the application server’s IP address or the multifunction printer/device’s IP address.   Exchange [...]

Exchange 2010 SP1 Prerequisites on 2008 R2 SP1

by Michel de Rooij 24 February 2011 Exchange

After Exchange 2010 SP1 became publicly available I wrote, apart from the SP1 changes, also on the prerequisites differences, comparing Windows Server 2008 with Windows Server 2008 R2. Note that these prerequisites are additional to the server roles and features required to install Exchange 2010 server roles. With the recent release of Windows Server 2008 [...]
