Using PowerShell to find the MAPI endpoint on Exchange 2010

by Nicolas Blank 30 March 2011 Exchange

I’ve been working with some folks who are discovering the intricacies of MAPI on Exchange 2010. Since they were feeling some pain on this issue, I thought it may be worth writing about in case more folks are running into the same issue. We’re used to Outlook doing a load of things for us, and [...]

Using PowerShell to determine the state of MAPI Encryption on Exchange Servers

by Nicolas Blank 15 March 2011 Exchange

In Exchange 2010 specifically, or even Exchange 2007/2010 mixed orgs you can easily detect which servers require MAPI encryption. The easiest would be to run Get-RPCClientAccess, which returns all Exchange 2010 servers  hosting MAPI Endpoints and all encryption levels as well as if the server carries  MAPI client and/or public folder responsibility. The output above [...]

Going to Cloud Based Exchange and don’t know where to start? Want to Compare Gmail and Exchange online side by side?

by Nicolas Blank 1 February 2011 Anouncements

Very common for most orgs to not know where to start, or understand where the benefits are. This morning I was made aware of a free tool from Quest, called the Quest Migration Assessment Tool, or QMAT for short. It’s a  browser-based application that provides guidance for evaluating Microsoft Exchange Online (BPOS/Office365), Google Gmail, and [...]

Outlook 2003 and exchange 2010 – enabling encryption – where was that GPO and other issues

by Nicolas Blank 17 August 2010 Exchange

By now you’ve noticed that Outlook 2003 doesn’t do encryption out of the box, and you KNOW there’s a better way of doing this than touching every desktop by hand – here it is: KB2006508 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2006508 talks you through how to build the GPO for Outlook 2003 and 2007   While were talking about Outlook [...]

OWA broken on Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008 – Red X appear instead of Web pages

by Nicolas Blank 15 August 2010 Exchange

Installing Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008 or 2008R2 is slightly different than installing on Server 2003. This includes installing Exchange 2007 SP3 on Windows 2008R2 since the pre-requisites that were taken for granted now need to be installed explicitly, especially concerning IIS. I had an annoying issue on OWA, where instead of seeing the OWA [...]

Exchange 2007 SP3 w/support for Windows Server 2008 R2 Now Available

by Nicolas Blank 22 June 2010 Anouncements

Moving on from news about how great the rollups for Exchange 2007 post SP2 are, SP3 has hit the shelves with the biggest line item being that it adds support for Exchange 2007 running on Server 2008 R2. That’s not all though, while there are a number of changes I’m going to pick a few: [...]

Exchange 2007 is not dead :)

by Nicolas Blank 21 June 2010 Exchange

No Exchange 2007 is NOT dead – on the contrary, it’s getting better as is proved by the lasted blog post entitled Overview of Exchange 2007 SP2 Rollup Installation. This post and the previous post announcing the release of the rollup made it quite clear that support for Exchange 2007 is ongoing and quite healthy! [...]

The case for wildcard certificates

by Nicolas Blank 13 May 2010 Exchange

Wildcard certificates used to have a stigma attached to them; however I didn’t really know where that stigma came from, except that it was considered “best practice” not to use them under certain circumstances. So I did a bit of digging – let’s start with the gold standard for Certificate Authorities (CA) – VeriSign, gold [...]

Exchange 2010 Address List Segregation and Current Support Stances

by Martin Coetzer 10 May 2010 Exchange

Dave Goldman is the author of the Exchange 2007 Address List Segregation Whitepaper (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/bb936719(EXCHG.80).aspx) and since Exchange Server 2010 was released, people asked for an update as it pertain to Exchange Server 2010.   The new Exchange Server 2010 Role Based Administration and Control (RBAC) features makes this whitepaper inappropriate and so a new one are therefore required. [...]
