In everyday life of work, traffic, speeding fines and deadlines, one often forgets to look at the bigger picture. What are you working towards, where would you like to be in 5 years, and how will you get there? What’s new, what’s hot? What exactly is all this SQL 2008 R2 all about?
A group of semi-geeky folk (you know the type who get all hyped up about a new version of software releasing) got together a while back around a large round table, and discussed the idea of bringing people together in a room to discuss ideas, technology, trends and topics. To broaden horizons, to share knowledge. To learn. To listen. To laugh. To have fun. However always striving towards a bigger picture, a goal – of expanding horizons, broadening skills and getting to know your technical community.
We created a space called SQLCape, which aims to be the meeting place of these individuals. The space will be a living, growing, learning environment; driven by passion, supported by skills and knowledge. The SQLCape community will get together on a regular basis, share contact information, be active on all sorts of social media environments (follow us on twitter @SQLCape, subscribe to RSS feed), and grow through knowledge sharing and user participation – that would be you guys.
You are invited to be a part of this community by signing up FREE OF CHARGE! Yes, you heard me right! The areas of interest will focus around things SQL and Business Intelligence, or in tech-talk – OLTP and OLAP. This will be an open community, so the friendly folk from Oracle are equally welcome as the bustling bunch of Microsoft partners.
Please tell us what you’d like to see, do, listen to and discuss during said events by replying below. Events will occur on monthly or bi-monthly schedules, with a strong online presence for the interim periods for those crack-your-head-open-can’t-get-it-right scenarios where you need advice from techies in the SQL/BI environment . The aim is to get Cape Town SQL/BI tech community working together – Ubuntu style.
We’d like to know who you are, what you want and any other comments, questions and ideas are welcome!
Look forward to meeting all of you soonest!
Warm regards,
SQLCape Organising Committee
